We’ve moved to Al-Asad, which is a Marine Corps Airbase. It’s off the proverbial hook. The living conditions here are approximately infinity times better than up at Al-Qaim.
Recent instances of cognitive dissonance:
- Yesterday we escorted a resupply convoy to a position on some dam. I have no idea what this body of water was, but it was ginormous. Staggering. And last thing I expected to see here.
- Mainside here at Al-Asad, which is about a twenty minute drive from our billeting, and where the PX and everything is, is overrun with Marines on bicycles. It looked like China or something.
- Yesterday I had three servings of crab-legs, a steak, a slice of cheesecake and another of apple pie. This place is awesome.
